Before moving to the solutions there are certain terms to know:

.ND file– ND file stands Network Data files. It is configuration file that allows QuickBooks to access a company file in a network or multi-user environment. As and when QuickBooks is accessed through a network in a multi user mode, the old .ND file is replaced by the new .ND file. The file can be found in the destination folder where QuickBooks software is installed in C –drive for Windows users and in Documents folder for MAC users.

.TLG file– TLG file stands for Transaction Log file. In this file entered transactions are saved temporarily. The old .TLG file gets replaced with the new .TLG file as and when one will close and reopen the QuickBooks Company file which can be found in C –drive in Windows operating system and in Document in MAC.

The 6000 error can occur in both local and network setup. Choose the appropriate solution from the following:

When you are opening the file locally

Resolution 1: You will face these errors if the above files are corrupted or damaged when one will try to open QuickBooks files. By renaming .ND file and .TLG file won’t get you to lose QuickBooks data and will resolve the error. These files are re-created automatically when one does rescan by the usage of QuickBooks Database Server Manager and when one opens the company file.

Resolution 2: The 6000 error may occur due to the problem with the company file or the QuickBooks application. To test this problem you have to open the sample company file. If the sample company file gives an error message then the problem is with the QuickBooks application, you would have repair the QuickBooks installation and if the sample opens completely go for the resolution 3 below.

Resolution 3: To check if there is problem with the location of company file you have to copy the on the desktop and open the file and if the file opens it means that the file path is damaged or it’s so deep that it exceeded the file system path limitation. If the file still did not open by changing the path then the file probably is damaged.

Resolution 4:  If you did all the above three resolution and still getting the error then it is recommended to restore the backup the lost data through QuickBooks ADR (Auto Data Recovery) tool.

When you are opening the file through network

Resolution 1: At first you have to check if the hosting is turned on or not, on all work stations. If it is turned on all workstations and you still facing the problem proceed to next resolution.

Resolution 2: If the .ND file and .TLG file is damaged or corrupted you will get these errors when you try to open QuickBooks files. By renaming these files, your QuickBooks data will not be lost. These files are recreated automatically when use QuickBooks Database Server Manager to rescan and when you open your QuickBooks Company file. The function of QuickBooks Database Server Manager is to host the QuickBooks Company files. The best way is to restart the QuickBooks DBSM and after renaming the .ND and .TLG file rescans the QuickBooks files. If the issue remains then proceed to next resolution.

Resolution 3: You have to open a sample company file for testing, if the problem is with company file or QuickBooks Software and if the sample company file does not open and rather shows an error then it implies that the QuickBooks software installation is corrupted or damaged and it should be fixed by repairing QuickBooks Application. If the sample file opens then proceed to the next resolution.

Resolution 4: Now try to open the company file locally for checking if the problem is with the path of the company file. If the file opens it means that the file path is damaged or it’s so deep that it exceeded the file system path limitation. If the file still did not open by changing the path then the file probably is damaged.

Resolution 5: End all the QuickBooks processes by logging in as the Administrator on the server computer and from the task manager close all the QuickBooks processes. And open the QuickBooks company file in multi user mode.
